The trach is in

Noah had his trach surgery this morning. It lasted for about an hour and Dr. Dunham said everything went very well. When he came out of recovery, he was "quite snowed" according to his nurse. Noah only squirmed when he needed to be changed. Both sets of grandparents came to Children's Hospital for the special event and were able to spend some time with Noah.
Right now, Noah is still hooked up to the respirator, but will be weaned off it over the next 48 hours. Although the trach is a bit scary now, it will enable Noah to be held, move to a crib and feed from a bottle. Kc and I are looking forward to what the next several days bring. We have so much to learn but are confident in our teachers at Children's Hospital.

Thank you all so much for your prayers and comments. The first thing Kc does when he wakes up in the morning is check the blog and read the comments to me. Your words are bits of love that we carry in our pockets on our way to visit Noah. "Team Noah" is carrying us through this challenging time.

  1. We hope you are able to hold Noah tomorrow, it will be good for all three of you. Noah buddy, don't worry too much about that game they call Football, I think its kind of a waste of time. When you get bigger I will teach you about "real" sports called hunting and fishing. Get some rest and keep growing. We will see you soon.

  3. Yay! Congrats on a successful surgery! Pretty soon you'll be vets when it comes to this surgery thing. Speaking of which... I have some friends who's daughter has a rare condition that has required several reconstructive eye surgeries (and I'm sure will need some more). They have everything done at a clinic at Stanford. I'm sure they would be a great resource for you when the time comes. If you are interested let me know and I will put you in contact with them.

    Much love,
    Launa

  6. Thank you so much for the blog posts. We read it every morning and night!

You're in our prayers, all three of you.

Read John 9:1-3, it really helped us through some tough times. Even though in the larger context that story is about something else, I feel like God put that verse in there to comfort parents in these kinds of situations.
